Description
The Albino Threadfin Acara is a beautifully bright variant of the South American cichlid Acarichthys heckelii. Known for developing attractive and elongated fin streamers in dominant males with iridescent highlights against a white and golden body. A generally peaceful species that does not prey on smaller fish such as tetras or Corydoras.
However as the case with most cichlids, the Threadfin Acara is best kept in groups to reduce aggressive behavior. The fish is also an active digger, which ultimately means it is not a good choice for aquariums that contain soil or nutrition-rich substrates and instead it requires a plain sand bottom.
For aquascaping, it is recommended to only keep this beautiful fish with plants that grow attached to wood or stones, due to the frequent digging activity expected from this species. It is also recommended to keep this fish with other similarly tempered varieties, such as the Electric Blue Acara and avoid shy or sensitive tank mates for a balanced community. Readily accepts most types of dry and frozen foods suitable for medium sized cichlids.
Fish Size Guide:
The ‘Maximum Size’ outlined below is the length this fish can reach as a full grown adult. For the actual size please use the select menu above.
Discus.ae prefers younger stock for their better ability to adapt to new water parameters and higher tolerance against transport. On rare occasions you may receive larger specimens when small fish are unavailable, however the smallest should be expected unless the size is noted as “Large” or “Adult”.
